Slacker

So yeah, been a while.

The wiring is eluding me. I've had a bunch of family obligations, and between watching [sick] kids, visiting family, a WoW patch, and various miscellany, I've not gotten a lot of stuff done on my list. Just in survival mode.

Been thinking about the MAME post, I'll get that done here soon. Yadda yadda, promises promises. =)

Per usual though, I can't just make a useless post and leave you, so here's something to help keep you entertained.

Edit: the link wasn't working for some people (hey, it worked for me!) so try this link or this link if you need to.

Someday I'm going to figure out how to embed a .swf with blogger.

I don't know either, bon. Maybe it belongs on my blog, it seems to be nothing...

That wiring isn't going to finish itself! Oh, wait, I have an unfinished wiring project in my basement, too. I wonder why I've never bothered to finish it? Your project sounds much more fun though, mine is just boring old low voltage stuff that I'm not needing to use anyway, like ethernet and cable tv. Oh how I hate the ethernet connectors. I go cross-eyed trying to crimp those things.

Yeah, I already did my ethernet cable crimping. And even put an end on a coax cable, that was interesting, I've never done that before.

I'm just going to have to do this stuff when the kids are up. If we're lucky they will stay away from the power tools.

Still, I could run the ethernet/phone probably even with my intimidation of the "real" wiring.

Real story is that I'm just lazy. =)

MAME? We don't need to be discussing MAME...do you know what kind of problems that will bring to my house?

Just kidding - hope the wiring project gets done soon!

I can understand being lazy, I fall into that same boat.

I can crimp coax all day long in my sleep, but I have a RG6 stripper and crimper that makes it easy. But those RJ45's give me a headache.

I was pretty intimidated about doing real wiring at first, too. You have to be meticulous. If nothing else, pull the wire and let a pro make all the connections. Pulling it is fairly easy, but time consuming, so you can save a bundle right there. Of course you have to know the circuit layouts so you know what to pull where.

Oh, and about that OS 9 CD...

Yeah, I think I'm ok on laying it out, etc. I'll probably get some help making the connections -- I think the actual sockes won't be bad, I'm nervous about the breaker box though.

I need to just do it though, I'm irrationally in a state of fear at this point. =)

Oh, and apologies on the MAME post in advance mrs. Nobody. I've been talking about doing it for forever. Maybe I'll do a quick recap post first then get into some gory details.

If you haven't done much wiring stay the heck out of the breaker box. That isn't something to mess with until you've gotten some experience. I first worked in mine out of sheer desperation when I couldn't get an electrician to come to the house. I play with really dangerous stuff at work though, so I figured I was less likely to kill myself in my breaker panel than I am at work.
