The burning crusade

Welcome to the end of the holiday season and the era of new year's resolutions. Best of luck with all that.

I should be hitting the basement again here in a week or two. I have all of the lights done (and have for a while), next is plumbing for the bathroom, air ducts and finishing the miscellany wiring, things like cable, ethernet, smoke alarms. Maybe sometime soon I'll get off my rear and get some more pictures going.

You may not see me much for a couple of weeks though.

I have the world of warcraft expansion to get out of my system.

Untill later.

IRC

Have any of you ever visited an internet chatroom? Also known as IRC or internet relay chat.

I used to frequent an IRC channel when I was in college. Some crazy people hang out in those. People tend to socialize like it were a bar or resturaunt or soemthing. Maybe a more apt example is Denny's at 2 AM. Who knows.

Anyway.

I sumbled across a link to a site I had forgotten about for some time, bash.org. They have funny snippets of chatrooms and a few stories like this one sprinkled in.

I thought I'd post a couple for you. You know, in case you get bored or something.

Enjoy.

Crossroads

So, now what?

That's been the story of my life the past 4 or so months. I've realized that pretty well every dream or want I've had as a kid has come true. Well, the reasonable ones anyhow. Some I've found without even knowing I wanted them.

This book for example.

Others I've never dreamed possible until recently.

Some decisions have been the most important I'll ever make.

Some are ultimately.... meaningless.

So then, now what?

Here I am at an intersection of sorts in the crossroads of my life. I've spent the past few months wandering around this crossroad, kind of daydreaming and trying to figure out where the heck I go from here.

It's like... Well, let's use a story as an example. I have a pretty good idea of where I'd like to be at the end of... well, what I know about life, the universe and everything.

We'll call that the north pole.

I just crossed the border of Mexico into the states and have my travel visa. It's been a long road since I left panama. I've seen tons of things on the way and feel as though I've just barely caught a glimpse of what's out there. There are cultures that are as alien to me as anything out of a sci-fi novel. There are people living like kings and slaves. There's a lot to see and I've barely scratched the surface.

Now I'm in a strange new world, sitting at a truck stop with no money, wondering what I'm going to do. I've gotten a glimpse of a map, and so I have some idea of where things are, but really no way of knowing how to get there. Sure, I know the general direction north is, but that doesn't help a whole lot. There's plenty more stuff to worry about on the way than just the direction I'm headed. Where do I stay? How do I travel? Do I take anyone with me? If a family member or friend needs help do I delay my trip (or even go back to help them) or do I forge ahead? Yes, plenty more to worry about than a simple bearing.

Somehow my subconscious, as it usually does, has started me on the way of an answer, I just don't know what it is yet. However, I am moving, walking down a highway that I don't know the beginning or end of. But I'm moving again. Here's to hoping I'm headed in the right direction.

Still here...

I'll write a post soon. I've got a few that just won't og away but I've not had a lot of time lately to put down my thoughts. I'm going to try and commit to something by early next week and see what happens.

Merry Christmas!

Since I'm probably not going to be posting again here soon I thought I'd take the opportunity to wish everyone a politically correct Merry Christmas RamaHanuKwanzMas!

I hope santa leaves you something...
...well, something good!

I also wanted to post this for an unsuspecting friend that I was thinking about when I saw this today.

Clean machine. All boards are in great working order, playfield and
playfield parts are 9+, backglass 9.5+, cabinet 9, 100% functional. I've
never shipped pins, and would prefer local pickup. I would be willing to
meet somewhere agreeable. Pictures available if serious.

Wha?

I'm dizzy. Still trying to catch up...

I'm sick, and have been for a few days.

Check out my wife's blog, last couple posts... been a rough few days. Spending almost 36 hours at a hospital isn't the funnest thing I've ever done.

Today, though I didn't go, we're moving locations at work to a new building. I think they packed up my desk (or rather, the table that was used as a desk) and everything on it and moved it over for me. Glad I cleaned it up last week.

Nobody was nice enough to send me a gift in the mail. Thanks nobody!

Remember the monitor stand that I had replaced? Or rather, that they shipped me an exchange monitor, and I got a new one? Well, that was the original plan from the web ticket I got from samsung. I called 2 weeks later after hearing nothing, and they said they would cancel that and ship me a stand. Well.

Wednesday last week a monitor stand came in the mail. Yeah, 12 weeks after I called about it. I'm not impressed.

Good thing the guy messed up cancelling the monitor swap-out, otherwise I'd have been stuck using 1024x768 for an extra month.

Christmas shopping is almost complete. I have no secrets left form my wife regarding gifts -- she knows everything. I've done pretty well for birthdays, but I never can seem to surprise her for Christmas. Maybe because my budget is more flexible around June than December. But.... we're about done there. Oh, unless someone wants to come finish my basement for me? I'd love to have Santa do that!

My next thoughtful post has been started and stopped about 6 times now. Maybe next time I'll just start off the cuff and let it fly. At this rate I probably have about 3 people checking my blog with any regularity, and unless I want to start just sending emails, I'd better do something about this poor blog. =)

I hope you all are getting exactly what you want for Christmas, and that everyone has a great holiday lineup!

Until later.

Quick update

Yes, I'm not dead.

No, I've not found any of the pictures of my wife in her punk rock days. I think she's hidden them. She denies any exist, but I don't believe her.

Lots has happened in the last few weeks. Christmas decorations went up just after thanksgiving. Lots of family get togethers have happened. Today it snowed 6 inches at our place. I've been working a ton, our company is moving locations and I'm part of the team that gets to help rewire the networking in the new place. In my spare time I've been playing a little bit of world of warcraft, but I've also re-discovered Dungeon Keeper 2. I'd recommend it if you like halloweenish themes and real-time strategy games. The basement has all but ceased in the last 2 months since I've been doing similar work.. at work. The light wiring is pretty well done, I jusdt have to wire the switch in the hall. The boxes are mostly up and ready to be wired in the extra rooms and the wire just needs connected to the outlets in the main room. I'm waiting on some of the duct work to move forward with that due to how the ducts may effect the wiring. Pinball is played 5-6 days out of a week on average, good stuff there. I'm so not ready for it to be Christmas yet. =)

I've swapped to the new blogger. We'll see how it goes, looks about the same so far.

More later.
